This Privacy Policy explains how AnimeKuni, Inc. ("AnimeKuni," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account information: email address, username, display name, date of birth, password (stored as a salted hash), and optional profile image.
  • OAuth information: if you sign up with Google or Discord, we receive the email and profile information you authorize.
  • Content you upload: videos, series, characters, comments, ratings, and any other material you submit.
  • Payment information: if you subscribe to Premium or a creator's membership, our payment processor (Stripe) collects card details directly. We never see or store full card numbers.
  • Support communications: messages you send us, including content moderation reports and DMCA notices.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, videos played, watch progress, search queries, click events.
  • Device data: IP address, browser type, OS, device identifiers, language.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 5.

2. How We Use Information

  • To operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • To authenticate accounts, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
  • To process payments and pay out creator earnings.
  • To send transactional emails (password resets, email verification, payment receipts, important account notices).
  • To recommend content, surface trending material, and personalize your experience.
  • To respond to support requests and legal process.
  • To send marketing communications, only where you have opted in.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

  • Service providers: cloud hosting (AWS), payment processing (Stripe), email delivery, analytics, and content delivery networks, each bound by contractual data-protection obligations.
  • Creators: if you subscribe to a creator's membership tier, the creator sees aggregated subscriber counts and their member roster (username, tier).
  • Public information: your username, display name, avatar, channel, public comments, and content are visible to other users.
  • Legal compliance: when required by law, court order, or to protect rights and safety.
  • Corporate transactions: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as the account is active. After account deletion, we retain limited records (payment history, moderation records, DMCA notices) for periods required by law or to enforce our agreements. Backups expire on a rolling schedule.

5. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences, and measure usage. You can manage cookie preferences at any time through the cookie banner or your account settings. Disabling functional cookies may prevent some features from working.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information; to object to or restrict processing; or to withdraw consent. EU/UK residents have rights under the GDPR. California residents have rights under the CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@animekuni.com. We respond within 30 days.

7. Children

AnimeKuni is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Transfers

AnimeKuni is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data-protection laws than your home jurisdiction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide reasonable advance notice.
